Spätburgunder Rosenthal (Ahrweiler) GG 2018

For the Jean Stodden winery, it is standard practice that the selected grapes are harvested manually and then fermented completely destemmed for 19 days in the mash tank. Alexander Stodden’s aim is to produce wines that are rich in tannins and have a very good ageing potential. Consequently, the proportion of new barriques is also high in the Spätbugunder Rosenthal. The wine spent 18 months in French oak barriques and was bottled unfiltered.

With the 2018 Spätburgunder Rosenthal, Alexander Stodden seems to have achieved a great success. This wine is an absolute prime example of the house style. The wine is characterised by pure elegance, spice and fine cherry fruit. It is endlessly long and profound, but never loud. The Rosentahl site is south-facing and has a diverse soil ranging from greywacke to loess loam to portions of slate.

Recommended drinking age: 2022 to 2028 +.
